Another month is about to end. Days seem to pass in a blink of an eye. I can’t believe were almost 1.5 years from this global pandemic and it’s been 5 months since I decided to quit my nine-to-five job. Working from home during this Covid-19 pandemic, not being able to travel, not being able to do things we normally do, limited to no social life, and a lot more things could really take a toll on someone’s mental health. Self-care is really important, take a breather.
As for myself, I am continuously seeking for things to do to keep my sanity. Here are some of the activities I have been doing for the past months.
Read a book. One of the things I look forward to yearly are the book bazaars like National Bookstore’s Book Binge Bazaar and The Big Bad Wolf’s Book Sale. I hoard books even though I won’t get to read them all at once. I am into Young-Adult Fiction and Self-help books. Here’s a glimpse of what I love reading:
Cook. Before pandemic, I rarely cook food at home mainly because I don’t have enough time to do so and we had a helper to do that. But due to this pandemic, things changed. I had to learn how to cook or else we would just rely on fast-food takeout and deliveries which isn’t really practical and definitely unhealthy. I was amazed that I turned out to be a pretty good cook. I didn’t know I could cook a complete meal for us. Something good really came out of this situation we’re in.
Sharing with you my version of Beer-battered fish fillet and Vietnamese Spring Rolls. I also post photos of my cooking on my Facebook account, I even thought of a hashtag for it. See #hindilangmalakasuminommasarapdinmagluto for more photos.
Binge watch movies/TV series. I think I have been subscribing to Netflix since 2016 and I was only able to fully utilize it starting last year. There are times that I would binge watch those series I’ve already seen over and over again (The Big Bang Theory, FRIENDS, How I Met Your Mother). They say that people often do this as a simple way of controlling our emotions whenever we feel that our entire world feels out of control. I must say, it really is therapeutic whenever I am feeling anxious with what’s happening around me. But of course, I also make sure to try and discover different genres. I currently have a lot on ‘My List’ but here are a few ones I got hooked on. Law School, Awaken and lastly Move to Heaven which by the way, I was able to finish in one seating. 😂
Play video/online games. Yes, this too is considered as a form of self-care and could help someone’s well-being, but of course, too much of everything could be bad. Playing games helps relieve my stress, anxiety and sometimes helps me to fall asleep too. I usually play via mobile or on my desktop.
On my mobile, I love playing Call of Duty, Homescapes and my favorite, Design Home. Design Home is one of my go-to mobile game whenever I want a relaxing game. Objective of the game is decorate different interiors
For browser based games, Plays.org have over 150 of free online games you can choose from. Loved how they offer a wide-variety of choices. I have yet to try the games but here are a few that I definitely liked:
Open Restaurant – A simulation game. Objective of the game is to serve customers and reach the earning goals on the allotted time for you to reach the next day. Sounds easy but it really easy challenging. See, I only made it through Day 7!
Make 7 – A strategy/logic game. Objective of the game is to merge the number blocks three times in a row to make 7. The game is too engaging, can’t believed that I barely noticed that I have been playing this for hours and I didn’t even reached making 7!
Learn. I have a lot of time, so I am taking all these time to take free trainings and to learn more about how I can monetize my social media accounts. I took trainings about Google Cloud, Digital Marketing, Basic SEO and SEM, and read about how to run YouTube ads
Try a new craft. Learned making polymer clay accessories thru watching videos on YouTube, TikTok and Pinterest. All my works turned out pretty good, so I decided why not sell them and earn thru this new found hobby. I know this was such a bold move for someone who doesn’t really have that much experience in producing and selling her crafts. But we all need to start somewhere, right? With the support of family and friends, I started my small business and named my shop “Kaperazo“. It came from the tagalog word “kapiraso” which means little or a portion of. Changed the spelling and combined it with my surname, Erazo.
